Quanergy’s 3D lidar solutions help Korea’s first V2X smart city project

Quanergy Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of optical phased array (OPA)-based solid-state lidar sensors and smart 3D solutions for the automotive and Internet of Things industries, announced today that the company’s 3D LiDAR solutions The program has been selected for the development of the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) system in Busan, South Korea. The ICT system is an important part of the Korean government’s strategy to build a data-driven smart city with the Internet of Things. Busan is one of the pilot cities for this plan.

Quanergy’s 3D solution is jointly deployed by the company and its long-term system integrator partner iCent. The solution includes Quanergy’s MQ-8 LiDAR sensor and the company’s proprietary perception software QORTEX DTC, Can collect and analyze traffic data, including pedestrians’ walking directions, traffic flow, and the number of speeding cars, so that iCent’s data analysis platform iSaver can judge the mode of traffic based on parameters such as different times of the day and different days of the week.

Based on the collected data, the Busan Smart City Transportation Center can better understand transportation methods, predict safety hazards, and finally formulate transportation policies that can improve pedestrian safety. This information is critical to ICT infrastructure and can provide the basis for smarter data-driven decision-making. In addition, the solution is also integrated with traffic lights to dynamically respond to traffic conditions and allow drivers and pedestrians to understand traffic information in real time through applications on smartphones. This is Korea’s first system to provide traffic data for Vehicle to Everything (V2X) devices and beacon devices.

V2X, or Vehicle-to-Everything, is one of the supporting technologies for smart cars and smart transportation. That is, the exchange of information between the car and the outside world. The Internet of Vehicles has established a new direction for the development of automotive technology by integrating GPS navigation technology, vehicle-to-vehicle communication technology, wireless communication and remote sensing technology, and realizes the compatibility of manual driving and automatic driving.

Simply put, models equipped with this system can automatically select the best driving route through the analysis of real-time traffic information in the automatic driving mode, thereby greatly alleviating traffic jams. In addition, by using on-board sensors and camera systems, it can also perceive the surrounding environment and make rapid adjustments to achieve “zero traffic accidents.”

The purpose of V2X is to reduce traffic accidents, reduce traffic congestion, improve traffic efficiency, and reduce vehicle pollutant emissions.

Moon, WonSang, CEO of iCENT, said: “Whether day or night, Quanergy’s LiDAR solution can provide greater than 95% accuracy and reliable performance under all environmental conditions. With more accurate data, Busan can improve its traffic policy. Effectiveness. In addition, the LiDAR solution also brings a lower total cost of ownership, which can save more than 30% of the cost. LiDAR also realizes the automation of data collection without the use of error-prone manual data collection methods.”

In 2020, Quanergy deployed its smart LiDAR solution in Seoul, South Korea, to improve the safety of pedestrian crossings near schools.

Quanergy was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in California, USA. It is a company that develops small solid-state cheap LiDAR sensors. Quanergy’s LiDAR sensor and software can capture and process high-definition 3D map data in real time, and detect, track and classify objects. Its application areas include transportation, security, map surveying and industrial automation.

Quanergy Systems’ goal is to create powerful and affordable smart lidar solutions for automotive and IoT applications to enhance user experience and safety. Quanergy has developed the only true 100% solid-state CMOS lidar sensor based on optical phased array technology to achieve mass production of low-cost, high-reliability 3D lidar solutions. With Quanergy’s smart lidar solutions, companies from all walks of life can now use real-time, advanced 3D insights to change their operations, including industrial automation, physical security, smart cities, smart spaces, and more. Quanergy’s solutions have been adopted by more than 350 customers worldwide.
