Recently, the EU 2021 Industrial R&D Scoreboard was announced. Huawei ranked second and was the only Chinese company in the top ten.
According to the list, Huawei’s R&D investment in 2020 is as high as 17.46 billion euros, or about 125.9 billion yuan. Google ranks first, with Microsoft, Samsung and Apple ranking three to five respectively.
The EU Industrial R&D Scoreboard was started in 2005. It collects and studies the economic and financial data of EU and global R&D investment enterprises, which is quite authoritative.
We all know the status quo of Huawei, and it can be said that it is struggling. Judging from the revenues announced on Huawei’s official website in October 2021, the total revenue for the first three quarters was only 455.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 32%. But even under such circumstances, Huawei has not reduced its investment in research and development, but has continued to increase it instead!
There are many technology companies in China, but who is like Huawei?
The self-developed Kirin chip further promotes the development of the domestic chip industry, and cooperates with BOE to build domestic OLED screens. 5G chips cannot be mass-produced, and the mobile phone business is declining, so use the operating system. Hongmeng System has reached 220 million users in only half a year, becoming the world’s third largest mobile operating system. Huawei has also released the Euler operating system for servers, the mining operating system dedicated to mining, and smart refueling solutions. Huawei has created China The business cards of technology companies have also shown China’s power to the world.
In contrast, what about the R&D investment of other domestic companies? According to the list of 500 private enterprises R&D investment in 2021, the total R&D expenditure of 500 companies is 742.9 billion yuan, and the Huawei family accounted for 141.9 billion yuan, close to 20%! According to Huawei’s financial report in March 2021, Huawei’s total revenue in 2020 is 891.4 billion yuan, and nearly 16% of its revenue is invested in technology research and development. When most companies are aiming at the Internet and looking for a blue ocean with low investment and high return, there are very few who are willing to invest in research and development like Huawei.
As the only rival of Apple among domestic mobile phone brands, Huawei has exchanged huge investment in research and development for technology accumulation and upgrades.
Self-developed chips and operating systems are projects with high investment, long payback periods, and high probability of failure. For this reason, domestic companies have been hesitant to develop chips and operating systems. However, Huawei began preparations for Hongmeng as early as 8 years ago. It is precisely because of Huawei’s precautions that after the Google GMS service was cut off, Hongmeng was able to complete the change from the spare tire to the formal change overnight, thus demonstrating the strength of Huawei.
It is neither like some domestic companies with annual revenues of more than 200 billion yuan, and R&D investment is only tens of billions.
It’s not like some companies with revenues of over 400 billion yuan, but more revenue goes into the pockets of executives.
Only when there is input, there is output, and the ancients sincerely don’t deceive me!
Now, Huawei has 3147 5G patents, the number one in the world!
At the same time, Huawei also donated Hongmeng and Euler systems to the China Open Atomic Open Source Foundation, not only dedicated to the development of the enterprise, but also to promote the progress of China’s science and technology.
At present, Huawei has more than 20,000 scientists and engineers worldwide, but it is still recruiting talented teenagers to join the R&D team with an annual salary of up to 2 million.
Hope there are more and more Chinese companies like this!
Many people say that Huawei’s patriotic marketing, but I think this kind of marketing is really good! If you refuse to accept it, come too!
